Newari Cheura Course

Tried the omnipresent Dal Bhat? Had enough of it? Now try the Newari version! Similar on many levels yet absolutely different, the Newari Cheura features a number of exotic side dishes you won't ever see in the traditional Dal Bhat. Even rice is substitued for a special rice crisp called 'Beaten rice'.

Host: Pratiba Pradhan

A housewife who freelances in graphic design, Pratiba loves to cook and hopes that she can help to showcase the best of her people, the Newars, to the outside world through this.

Just like Dal Bhat, this is a staple of the Newari family. What's special here is the 'beaten rice', a rice crisp made by literally beating it and flattening it!

The other dishes are variations of what you would get in Dal Bhat, like the potatoes and curry chicken/buffalo. The pancakes are a Newar specialty though!
